Origin The Colombian coffee-growing region is recognized internationally for its fertile, volcanic lands in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The temperate weather, agroclimatic conditions and generous rainfall make the Colombian coffee bean quite unique, consequently yielding a clean cup of coffee with balanced acidity and medium body. Conservation Program When purchasing our coffee, you are also supporting the conservation of the spectacular Emerald Toucanet that inhabits the forests of the Colombian coffee-growing regions. World-Renowned The Andina coffee-growing region, located in the foothills of the Andes mountains, is recognized for its fertile, volcanic soil. For more than a century the landscape and climate in this region have grown the best mild, well-balanced coffee in the world. Given my history as a gas station coffee drinker, this must be what real coffee tastes like. It was strong and flavorful. I can’t pretend to know the subtle tastes but it was good! I also thought the coffee was ground finer than others I have used at home. I’ll admit I liked the pretty packaging and it says it supports a good cause.I thought that the dark roast might make it a little bitter but it wasn't it was very smooth and rich.Me encantó su sabor ! Original de colombia ! This robustly flavored Colombian dark roast has many of the characteristics of coffee grown in volcanic soil: a significant smokiness in its flavor coupled with a slightly ashy quality and a slight "bite" due to the basaltic nature of the mile high mountainous soil in which these coffee plants were grown and harvested. Volcanic regions tend to produce excellent coffees. What struck me as different about this Colombian is that it goes against the grain of most of this region's production style. Most Colombian coffees have a milder and more elegant presentation. This is a robust, full bodied coffee that boasts a much deeper flavor than the usual Colombian. I found it delicious in both taste and aroma. These ground beans were fine enough for the espresso machine that I used, which seemed to bring out most of the richness of this coffee. Tasting notes include the aforementioned smokiness, with hints of almonds, tobacco, licorice, dark chocolate, and a slight fruitiness at the finish. This coffee also has a mild astringency that lingers on the tongue. It is easy on the stomach: something that always concerns me, since coffee acidity can be an issue for those, like me, who are sensitive to strongly acidic foods. It also boasts a nice tiger-striped crema that lasts in the cup. It has a decent caffeine kick, making it a good breakfast and late-afternoon eye-opener for those, like me, who need such things. All-in-all, Emerald Toucanet 100% Colombian Ground Coffee is a well-balanced, full-bodied Colombian dark roast that ticks all of the boxes. This coffee smells so good. I so wish coffee would taste like it smells. So I continue to try different ones amp; some are really great, some are not so great. This one isn’t bad.I usually prefer a medium roast when drinking my coffee black. Dark roasts are sometimes too strong amp; heavy for me, imparting more bitterness than I like unless I drink it with cream. Because of that I have no problem with drinking different roasts amp; have enjoyed many different kinds over the years. This Emerald Toucanet Columbian Dark Roast almost seems to be more of a medium roast rather than an intensely strong dark roast. It was a little weak, which is so not typical of a dark roast. It’s tempting to use more coffee to try to intensify the depth of flavor but that doesn’t really change it, it needs to come from a darker roast.I don’t have a problem with bitterness with this coffee but it is a little more acidic than I prefer. I’ll drink it whether it’s black or with cream. My daughter said she couldn’t identify what she was tasting but she didn’t care for it. So, I guess I get to drink it all. This is a better than average coffee that is fairly dark and rich. I didn't find it bitter at all an in fact pretty smooth. It arrived nice and fresh but the bag is not resealable. You'll need to drink it pretty quickly or have some sort of airtight container to store it in if you won't go through a 12 ounce bag of coffee very quickly. It's good a moderately strong black and pairs well with a flavored creamer. It is also good cold as an ice coffee. Iced or chilled it also works with cream, sugar or some flavored creamer product. it works well with Bailey's and Kahlua as well.Overall, I think this a good coffee, certainly better than average. I don't think I'd make it my daily cup but it will go in the front row of coffees in the cabinet that I wouldn't hesitate to drink or offer to a guest as a tasty all around coffee.I don't think it is good enough to justify the hefty .00/lb price tag when I could get two pounds of Barrie House espresso roast for less than . That's generally what I drink on a daily basis. The media could not be loaded.  I absolutely love this Columbian roast. Up until now I really only have experience with Colombian roasts that are medium roast. I believe this is the first time I have ever tried Columbian roast as a dark roast and let me say I am a big fan. This has all the full bodied Columbian taste I am used to, only on a higher scale. The flavors are more pronounced than I am used to and it is a full bodied taste. It has a slight sweetness to it, like other Columbian roasts but it is not at all weak tasting. It also has deep nutty tones to it as well. This tastes good straight up black but I like to add a little bit of creamer in it as well. It compliments a compliments the tones. I really like this brand and plan on exploring their other blends. Highly recommend.Emerald Toucanet 100% Colombian Ground Coffee, Dark Roast, is a rich tasting brew. The beans are grown in the foothills of the Andes mountains and roasted in small batches. This is a very flavorful Arabica premium dark roast and I enjoy it as a strong wake up morning coffee. It comes tightly vacuum packed so smells and tastes very fresh. The best before date on the bag is a year in the future. It seems that more and more coffee makers are associating their coffee sales with support for various causes. In this case, the support is for the conservation of the Emerald Toucanet that inhabit the forests of Colombia’s coffee-growing region. Growing coffee on sustainable and renewable plantations supports both the cause and the overall environment. It’s a good coffee and a good cause.
